Two of our favourite industry donors have gifted us with many bolts of natural knits, bamboo, cotton knits and blends in a rainbow of colours  – all beautiful and soft to the touch. We’re excited to share our gigantic stash with you—we hope you will join us this Thursday, April 12th at 5pm for another spectacular sale!

 

Premium Active Wear

Bins and bins of premium active wear from a local high-end designer—lots of technical fabrics, yoga wear knits, stretch outerwear and technical wear. Theses are high quality fabrics, find them at the back display table.

 

Vinyl / Naugahydevinyl

We also received a few of bolts of light, upholstery weight vinyl—we know you’ve been wanting vinyl! Some black, a bolt of butterscotch tan, and a warm rust colour, all packaged in 1 and 2 meter lengths @ $3/meter.

Our next set of Sewing Workshops starts next Monday, April 16th.  We listened to what you asked for, so we’re offering another “Start to Sew” Workshop on Monday evenings and a “Cushions Galore—Home Décor 101” workshop on Monday mornings.

OSF Sewing Workshops April-May ’18

We are delighted to announce that OSF is offering three more sewing classes. Those who attended the first Start to Sew class has so much fun and are excited to learn more sewing techniques and make more awesome stuff! The next series of classes will begin Monday, April 16:

Cushions Galore – Home Décor 101

Learn to construct basic home décor cushions in your choice of designs and sizes. Bring a pillow form and your own coordinating fabric or choose from tons of designer remnants at the OSF shop.
Date: Monday mornings, April 16, 23, 30 and May 7, 9:30 – 12 noon pm
Cost: $110

  • Classes: 1 session per week
  • 5 hours per session
  • 4 sessions per series
  • Class size 4-8 students
  • Prerequisite: Basic sewing skills and understanding of sewing
    terminology, or student will have taken the “Start to Sew” class, or have equivalent experience.
  • Equipment/Supplies: Bring your personal sewing machine and sewing tools
    (rental machines available upon request $5/class – first come, first served basis)

Learn to plan and cut out your choice of cushion size and style.
Learn envelope, box style, zippered cushion covers, roll cushions and more.
Learn to add decorative elements to customize and personalize cushions for your home.

Hi folks, Spring has sprung, the grass is “grizz” – not sure what that means but Spring is definitely here. Our Social Fabric has received a mountain of new donations these past two weeks and we are excited to share everything with you! Join us this Sunday, March 25th at 10am for another spectacular sale!

Premium Active Wear

 Leather Hides
Not something we get very often, but we received a number of large leather hides, and some smaller cut pieces. Leather weights from bag-weight to garment weight. Colours mostly in the tan and brown range. All the leather will be laid out on the black cutting table at the back of the shop.

Spring Fabrics
We’ve put together an enticing assortment of spring florals and complimentary knits and wovens. Happiness is just a beautiful piece of fabric away…

Buttons , buttons and more buttons!
So many beautiful buttons, not enough time to sew them all! So, here’s a challenge for you—send us a photo of something creative that you have made using lots of buttons. Send your photo to: oursocialfabric@gmail.com. If your submission is the winner (we’ll let you know by Saturday evening), we will highlight your creation in our next blog. And, if you (the winner) come to the Sale on Sunday with your creation, we will have a special gift for you.

What’s with all the snow? Just when we thought Spring was around the corner, winter is back! Have no fear, OSF is here to make sure you have lots of cozy wool and wool blends, boiled wool and wood crepe to snuggle up with – you willfind them in the “Naturals” section near the back of the shop, just before the knits.

While we are still in warm & woolly mode, we also have many bundles of various fleece weights to choose from, for your hoodies, cozy pants, mittens and scarves. Don’t forget about our black technical fleece as well, by the bolt ($80) or in 3m packages.

Swimsuit Lycra, Stretch Lace & Mesh 
Heading south for Spring Break? What better time to whip up a few bathing suits for lounging on the beach. We have a rainbow colours of 4-way stretch lycra to choose from. Top off your beach look with a lovely stretch lace top or a flowing skirt– what a great Untitled-3combination – a lycra bathing suit and a stretch lace top! Both are also great for bras, panties, camis and tights – you will also find some stretch lace elastic in the notions section for undies!

February 8, 2018 Sale!

 Home Decor

Since our last sale we have received two very large donations of home decorating and drapery fabrics. We have bolts and bundles to choose from. High quality embroidered linens, brocades, velveteen, rayon blends and many more. This is a great opportunity to replace those tired sheers in your home or office – we have many bolts of sheers and voiles in shades from white, cream and pale yellows., some with printed designs and embroidered hems.IMG_0038

 Muslin

Our regular donor has done it again!  We have packages of muslin in all shapes and sizes plus there are a few yardages.  This stuff does not last long so may not be available at the next sale, so get it now!

 Bridal and Special Event

Satins, crepes and jacquards in a variety of colours, perfect place to start planning your June wedding.  With Easter just around the corner, you may want to check out these pretty pastels. Planning a large Easter dinner party or need table covers for yourIMG_0036 daughter’s upcoming wedding? We have lots of pastel brocades and jacquards, and silk-type fabrics for all your reception and catering needs. These fabrics would also make great backdrops for behind the a head table or for a theatre production!

Our shelves are stocked so, come and scoop up some great bargains and help us keep textiles out of the landfill!

Yes, we actually have bins of quilting cottons for you, lots of colours and patterns and lovely prints. Lots of bags of cotton pieces to make mini or patchwork quilts—the possibilities are endless.  

 

Organic Linen and Cotton Fabric

We received a bolt of lovely organic linen and cotton fabric from one of our favourite designers. The colour is a soft charcoal with a hint of purple. Content is 55% linen and 45% organic cotton—limit 2 X 3meter bundles per customer please :)  

Premium Active Wear

We have soft, flexible, durable and light weight premium active wear in black and blue/turquoise—find them in with the knits. IMG_0020Great for leggings, jackets and  tops

Cotton and Bamboo/Cotton Knits

Sewing Classes

Start to Sew:

Dates: Feb 14, 21,28 and March 7  

Time: 6:30-9:00 pm

4 sessions, 2.5 hrs per session

Class size: maximum of 6 students

Location: at the OSF Shop, 1275 Venables, Vancouver

Instructor: Denise Jones-Chu

Prerequisites: none (bring your own sewing machine)

Goals:

Learn to use a domestic sewing machine

Gain confidence with basic sewing exercises

January 4, 2018 Sale!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!  Weekender bag

From all of us at Our Social Fabric, here’s hoping that you had a very Merry Christmas and that you’re looking forward to a bright and prosperous New Year. We missed you all during our break in December but want you to know that Santa’s little Elves have been busy stocking the shelves with plenty of new fabric, notions and home décor.  Our Pop-Up Sale is this Thursday, January 4th at Our Social Fabric— here’s what we have in store for you:

Vinyl, Faux-Suede and Velvet

This medium-weight, great quality vinyl is available in medium green and dark brown. One of the “OSF gals” made a large weekender bag using the brown vinyl (looks like IMG_7422leather), dark jacquard floral and navy blue faux-suede – see picture. Keep an eye out for the display in the shop with all the coordinating fabrics so you can make your very own weekender bag or fabulous new fancy mini-purse!

Home Décor

So, home décor fabric are not just for decorating and can range from light-weight drapery to upholstery weights – some  are woven with thicker fibers and are stabilized and backed, making them perfect for tote bags, purses, yoga mat bags and more. Home décor IMG_7415fabrics are also great for theatre period costumes as they stand up to abuse through the years of performances. Check out our excellent selection of fabrics, both rolled and on the bolt. Yes, we’ll cut a piece from a bolt if you just need a bit.

Thread & Notions

Always a staple in our shop, lots of colours and varieties of cone & serger thread to choose from, newly packaged in convenient “grab and go” $2 packs. The notions section is packed – bet we’ve got what you’re looking for (snaps, hooks and eyes, sewing tools together with lots of buttons including and supply of mother of pearl buttons!)

Baby, it’s cold outside and we have lots of fleece to give you the warm fuzzies including 

our Black Technical Fleece, available in 3m lengths or by the bolt for $80. Also, a small quantity of 100% cotton, grape-coloured fleece, as advertised in our Instagram Post.
