Hi,
sounds like an awesome organization! way to go! wondering if you are still current as of july 2010? Also, I used to be a painter and have 2 bags of clothing with paint on them? Do you have any ideas about where I could take this clothing? It cannot be recycled in a useful way probably, but I don’t want to dump in the garbage if there is a better alternative like having it shredded or whatever. any help with ideas appreciated.
I also have clothing that is torn but otherwise clean and I understand through what I’ve read here that i could drop this off at your locale?
thank you, Ty

When you say you take fabric scraps from sewing, do you mean large scraps that can be sewn into something else or do you have a place the recycles the fabric? I have organic cotton scraps from small manufacturing runs. I have been looking for a place to recycle the scraps.

[...] You can help by donating anything made out of fabric. So that means your clothing, or cloth scraps and even bedding. The only condition is that it must be washed before you bring it in. They also accept sewing related items such as buttons and thread. Details for donating fabric here. [...]

I have old uniforms (t-shirts) that I would like to donate but can only do so if they are not “recognizable”. If there are logos on the fabric, do you avoid using them? It sounds like a really wonderful program – Thanks!

I have been trying to find a place to recycle rags and bits of clothes for years couldn’t face throwing them out. Also scraps from dress making.
Do you take tiny dress making scraps ?
Do you take washed but holey underwear or socks or t-shits ?… only so many can be used for rags at home
I cut off the bottom of pants to make into shorts do you take bottoms, cut off hems or pieces of old pants, sweat pants, nylon pants and jeans?
Do you take cut up pieces of jeans?

Hi there,
My daughter is interested in seeing if you have enough material that would do for a graduation dress. I would like to know what your hours are or if you have regular hours for buying fabric. We would be coming from White Rock so would appreciate a contact number to call before making the commute in. Thanks so much

I have a large number of hospital uniforms (clean) that we are getting rid of. I thought since there is so much material involved, I should try and send it somewhere for re-cycling. If I go to the Commercial/Powell site, would I have to then take it upstairs or anywhere awkward to access. Are you open to receive contributions on Saturdays? (biggest question!)

Hi – great to hear you’ve got a good supply of fabric one hand/a sale is coming up, but since you’re not taking any donations, any suggestions on where I can take used towels, duvet covers, etc? Thanks!
Posted by Sarah on January 9, 2011 at 9:19 pm
Your Jan 6, 2011 notice said you are not accepting clothing for the time being. Does that include materials for recycling?
Posted by Jo-Anne on January 22, 2011 at 10:04 pm
Hi for anyone who has towels pillow cases etc try contacting your local Vet and see if they require anything. Often towels are used for wrapping and drying pets.

Hi there,
Do you have any need for polyester or recycled polyester fabrics? The City of Surrey has numerous street banners made of first run or recycled polyester which we send for industrial recycling. If you might have a use for them we would be pleased to divert some of the fabrics to you. Details: http://www.surrey.ca/city-services/548.aspx
Contact for details.

I have a couple of bags full of clean cotton worn out (edging into rag territory) clothing I’d like to keep out of the landfill. Do you accept clothing to repurpose? If not, do you know of any fabric recycling centers?
Thanks!
Posted by Emily Smith on November 24, 2011 at 4:57 pm
Hi Hilary. Thanks for your interest in OSF. Unfortunately we are currently only able to accept textiles in good condition – good enough to sew with, clean, folded, and no smaller than a 6 x 6 inch square. Getting into textile recycling is one of our long-term goals, but it will be a while yet before we get there. The only fabric recycling centres we currently know of are out of province. We do not accept clothing to repurpose, and instead suggest you donate any clothing items to local shelters or secondhand stores. Hope this helps.

Sounds like there are a lot of folks in need of a fabric recycling center. Hope you guys get there soon! Keep up the good work.

For those looking to donate clothing that is no longer to be worn try Trans Continental Textile Recycling in Surrey. They make rags out of old clothing.
I am a sewing teacher. I had a large amount of 1970′s polyester from an estate donated to my school. My students will not use it and we just don’t have room for it. If I have my students wash, measure and bundle it, would you be interested in it?
Posted by keashipley on February 14, 2012 at 1:01 am
Hi Renee,
Yes we would be. Contact us at osfdonations@gmail.com to set up an appointment.
Thank you for your interest.
